Icelandic Banks - A statement
|
At this stage, it appears that NO councils administering this area have investments in any of the Icelandic banks. The nearest councils affected, none of whom administer our area, appear at this stage to be: Exeter City Council £5m, Cornwall County Council £5m, Plymouth City Council £13m, Somerset County Council £25m, Dorset County Council £28m. No local police authorities are affected. In the short term, our local councils are fine, however, it is possible that in the long term, the Government will reallocate long term funding towards those areas where the biggest losses have been suffered.

Ilfracombe Town Council is undergoing a move across cyberspace! As part of the building refurbishment, the new council website is now at www.theilfracombecentre.co.uk. That site is in the process of taking over from this site, which is being kept up for now, to allow access to the old minutes and agendas on our calendar.

Mayor defends Chief Fire officer
|
Ilfracombe Mayor John Swan has gone on record to “put straight” exactly what was said at the public meeting held at Ilfracombe Junior School last Wednesday (January 2nd) after a media report suggested that comments made at the meeting by Chief Fire Officer Paul Young could lead to calls for his resignation.
The report, by a regional daily newspaper, was taken up by other papers in the area and suggested that the high ranking officer had stated that he “had been wrong” and that his proposals for Ilfracombe would “endanger lives”.

Ilfracombe Clean-up Campaign 2008.
|
john.swan writes "At a recent Litter meeting chaired by the Mayor, local and district councillors agreed to promote an initiative to instigate a major clean up of the town in time for next season. It is hoped that the Landmark would be the NDDC flagship contribution and steps will be taken to try to get everyone in the Town on board. The initiative proposals include the Dog Trust, Graffiti, (with the help of the Probation Service), a 'lanes and footpaths' tidy and paint, Street furniture cleaning and painting and Beach cleaning. The initiative will attempt to bring together a number of groups who undertake this kind of work in a co-ordinated push to gain a strong visible benefit. If YOU would be prepared to help, contact us with your details. It could be as simple as a pledge to tidy up your garden! Please help! (windmill winner)

Having viewed the video about the dearth of youth facilities in the town, Ilfracombe Round Table decided to do something about it. £250 was allocated by Ilfracombe Round Table, with further funding of £250 from Ilfracombe Rotary club, and £200 from the Town Council. The Friday Night Project, as it is known, was the idea of Councillor and Round Tabler Paul Crabb, who together with Round Tablers Joel and Leo Cooper made the idea reality.
